Be More Deliberate

As we look ahead with our eyes firmly fixed on the medal, one quality we must embrace in the months ahead is deliberateness. Success rarely happens by accident. It is often the product of clear intentions, disciplined actions and the willingness to keep moving even when circumstances do not go according to plan.

Many of us entered 2020 with carefully written plans, ambitious targets and expectations of what the year would become. Then the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted virtually every aspect of life. Businesses were forced to close or adapt, careers were interrupted, events were cancelled, and plans were postponed. The lockdown changed the way we worked, interacted and pursued our dreams.

Yet, within the disruption came opportunities.

The pandemic taught us that while we may not always control circumstances, we can control how we respond to them. The restrictions on movement pushed many people and organisations to embrace technology. Meetings, training, conferences, businesses and collaborations moved online. People who had never considered working with individuals or organisations beyond their immediate environment suddenly found themselves connecting and collaborating across the globe without leaving their rooms.

The question, therefore, is not only: What did the pandemic take away from you? It is also: What did it teach you, and what will you do differently because of it?

As a new year, new month, and new day unfold, let us become more deliberate.

Be deliberate about the people whose lives you want to touch. Be deliberate about your career. Be deliberate about your family. Be deliberate about your relationships, your personal development and the contribution you want to make to your community.

If your previous plan was called Vision 2020, and circumstances prevented you from achieving everything you desired, do not abandon the vision. Refine it. Strengthen it. Give it a new timeline. It will become an opportunity to rise again with greater wisdom and experience.

Being deliberate means refusing to leave important things to chance. It means setting goals and taking measurable steps towards them. It means learning from failure without letting it define you. It means recognising opportunities and having the courage to act when they appear.

We must first develop a winning mindset. A winning mindset does not simply hope for victory; it prepares for it. It understands that the medal we desire must be matched by the effort we are willing to invest.

Let us therefore work assiduously, support one another and remain committed to excellence.

The new year is another opportunity to rewrite our stories, pursue our dreams and make a meaningful difference.

Be intentional. Be disciplined. Be persistent. Be more deliberate.

May God guide our steps, strengthen our efforts and help us and all that is ours attain the success we desire.
